RORY MCNAMARA

I approach photography as a way of thinking through the world. I begin with attention to light, to surface, and to the subtle shifts that unfold over time. I photograph the landscape not as spectacle, but as something lived with, a place where human consciousness and the physical world quietly meet.

Through close, long looking, I linger with scenes that might otherwise go unnoticed and hold them in suspension. Condensation on a window, a swarm of flies, and a sidewalk softened by snow are familiar occurrences that slow the pace of looking when isolated.

Each photograph emerges through a series of deliberate choices including framing, selecting a subject, manipulating light, and sequencing. I do not aim to explain or resolve these moments, but to let meaning surface gradually. The photographs ask for patience, I want the viewer to remain with the image long enough for it to shift, for attention itself to become the subject. The experience of the image is an essential part of the work, as it speaks to how photographs mediate perception, memory, and consciousness, rather than simply representing reality.
